Martín Anselmi takes charge of Elche for the 2026/27 season
The agreement includes an additional season subject to meeting targets, and the coach is already leading first-team training.
Martín Anselmi is Elche CF’s head coach for the 2026/27 season. The club announced his appointment on 13 June and presented him five days later at the Martínez Valero stadium. The Argentine coach replaces Eder Sarabia and has been in charge since the start of pre-season preparations.
The agreement includes an additional season if certain targets are met, Elche said. Anselmi, who was born in Buenos Aires in 1985, joined the club after coaching Independiente del Valle, Cruz Azul and FC Porto.
With the Ecuadorian side, he won the 2022 Copa Sudamericana and the Recopa Sudamericana. At his presentation, he said he wanted to build on the team’s competitive identity and described his approach as proactive and intense, with an emphasis on keeping possession.
The squad began pre-season training on 1 July at the Díez Iborra facilities. The club also scheduled a training camp at La Finca Resort in Algorfa from 3 to 8 August. The coaching staff includes Luis Pastur and Fran Rubio as assistants, Cristóbal Fuentes as fitness coach and Darío Herrera as goalkeeping coach.
Anselmi’s appointment followed Sarabia’s announcement on 27 May that he was leaving Elche. The club said at the time that the coach wanted to take a break from management. During his spell, the team won promotion and subsequently secured its place in the Primera División.
