Guardamar writer Juan Ramón Torregrosa will present his novel El viaje de los salmones this Thursday at the Ateneo Cultural Casino Orcelitano in Orihuela. The event begins at 19:30 and is part of the «Bajo la higuera. Charla con autor/a» series, organised by the Fundación Cultural Miguel Hernández. Published by the Murcian publishing house La Fea Burguesía, the 234-page book explores the midlife crisis of a teacher who questions the meaning of his life and his vocation as a writer. The novel also offers a portrait of the generation born in the mid-1950s.
Torregrosa, who was born in Guardamar del Segura in 1955, holds a degree in Hispanic Philology and a PhD in Literary and Artistic Theory and Comparative Literature. He taught secondary school until his retirement in 2015 and has had a wide-ranging career as a poet, novelist, playwright, literary editor and anthologist. His works include poetry collections such as Sol de siesta, Sombras del olvido and Concierto de contrarios, as well as novels such as Céfiro and Nube. He has also published critical editions of works by authors including Miguel Hernández, Federico García Lorca and Gabriel Miró.
The series continues on 27 October with a new illustrated edition of El rayo que no cesa by Miguel Hernández, followed on 10 November by Pan, fútbol y silencio by Roberto Hurtado García.
