Guardamar brings a whole generation together at its major 1960s reunion

A total of 350 people took part in an event bringing together those born between 1960 and 1969. Memories, friendship and a sense of belonging to Guardamar were at the heart of the day.

Guardamar del Segura, October 2026 – Guardamar del Segura enjoyed a particularly moving day on 17 October with the 1960s Fiesta, a major generational reunion that brought together men and women born between 1960 and 1969, along with many guests.

The event was organised by Manuel Aldeguer García and Manuel Maciá Senent, coordinators for each of the years represented. It began with a simple but ambitious idea: to bring together a whole generation of people from Guardamar, and others with close ties to the town, to reconnect, share memories and renew friendships formed decades ago.

The response exceeded expectations. A total of 350 people took part in the gathering, according to figures compiled by the organisers.

Ten year groups, one generation

A key factor in making the reunion happen was the creation of a wide network of coordinators, with representatives for each year group from 1960 to 1969.

For weeks, the team worked hard to find people, share information and coordinate arrangements, using personal contacts, messaging groups and social media to reach as many people as possible.

The result was an impressive representation of the whole decade, from those born in 1960 to the 1969 year group, turning the celebration into a living journey through ten years of Guardamar’s recent history.

The day began with a parade setting off from Plaza del Ayuntamiento, followed by a shared meal and then a party at the Auditorio del Campo de Guardamar, where music and memories brought back many of the moments that shaped a generation’s youth.

Guardamar’s support

The organisers particularly wish to highlight the support of Guardamar del Segura Town Council, which helped the event go ahead as a gathering centred on community and a sense of belonging to the town.

Local businesses, shops and professionals also lent their support, contributing in various ways and donating gifts.

This backing once again shows Guardamar’s ability to get behind initiatives that come from within the community and help strengthen the bonds between its residents.

Much more than a meal

The 1960s Fiesta was intended to be much more than a get-together around a table. Its real aim was to bring people, stories, friendships and memories back together.

Many participants met again after years — and in some cases decades — apart. Former classmates, childhood friends, neighbours and acquaintances remembered the Guardamar where they grew up: its streets, customs, fiestas, meeting places and a way of life that remains in the collective memory.

Photographs from each year group, along with the hats, T-shirts, banners and other items prepared for the occasion, added to the relaxed, festive atmosphere of a day full of emotion.

A collective effort

The organisers wish to stress that the event’s success would not have been possible without the work of everyone who coordinated the different year groups.

Their dedication helped bring together hundreds of participants and make the celebration a reality. The official dossier describes it as a gathering for «convivencia y fraternidad en Guardamar del Segura» (community and fellowship in Guardamar del Segura), bringing together people born during the 1960s.

The organisers also thank Guardamar del Segura Town Council, the businesses and shops that supported the event, the media, coordinators, participants and everyone who helped make the reunion possible.

The events of 17 October showed that every year group has its own story, but that they all share something more important: having belonged to the same era and having a deep connection with Guardamar.

Ten years. Ten year groups. Hundreds of stories and memories. One generation and one place to return to: Guardamar del Segura.
